フランスの現代アーティスト、ソフィ・カル、「不在」を見つめた日本初の作品集。

画家オディロン・ルドンの壁画『グラン・ブーケ』（三菱一号館美術館所蔵）に着想を得てソフィ・カルが製作した《グラン・ブーケ》（2020年）をはじめ、テキストと写真の作品群『なぜなら』、盗難された絵画の額縁を見つめる人々が語る『あなたには何が見えますか』、ピカソ作品の不在を示す『監禁されたピカソ』、映像作品《海を見る》など、ソフィ・カルの名作と代表作を収録した日本初の作品集。

作品の一部ともいえるフランス語テキストを日本語に翻訳し、巻末に収録。作家の世界観を美しい装丁でも表現した、世界的現代アーティスト、ソフィ・カルへの理解が深まる一冊。2024年11月23日〜2025年1月26日三菱一号館美術館で開催の『「不在」―トゥールーズ=ロートレックとソフィ・カル』展公式図録兼書籍として刊行。

1953年、フランス生まれ。極めて日常的かつ私的な営みをベースに、写真や言葉を通じた物語性の高い作品を制作するコンセプチュアル・アーティスト。1980年代より現代美術作家として活動。日本国内では、2013年～2016年に原美術館・豊田市美術館・長崎県立美術館で巡回展、2019年には原美術館で個展を開催。2024年11月下旬より、三菱一号館美術館再開館記念として『「不在」―トゥールーズ=ロートレックとソフィ・カル』展を開催。2024年高松宮殿下記念世界文化賞絵画部門を受賞。
