１９３４年、パリに生まれる。フランスの人類学者・民族学者。ソルボンヌ大学で哲学を修めた後、アルフレッド・メトローとクロード・レヴィ＝ストロースのもとで人類学の研究をはじめ、南アメリカをおもなフィールドとした。１９７７年、自動車事故によりガブリアックに没する。
